  11. Não está encerrado!...mas já está aí muito bom som e em diversas vertentes! ... «Boom: How Much Costs Independent Culture Making an independent festival has been a difficult task. But Boom does it as an imperative. Boom´s finances have been a common discussion both in the physical and in the cyber worlds. Throughout the years we have been reading all the narratives stating that: “Boom team is made of millionaires”; “Boom generates millions of euros”; “every edition is synonym of millions of euros of profit”, etc… The most common popular equation for these conclusions is multiplication: people multiply an imaginary amount of public (usually a largely inflated number) with the highest ticket price! It could be adequate if Boom was a common production. But Boom has not a common production methodology. Neither has an ordinary financing system. And since we at Boom believe in participatory democracy, here is a demonstration of some of Boom´s hidden dimensions. Some facts: Boom employs 1,200 workers during the festival (count it as 1,200 workers x 10 days). The average fee for a worker is 50€ a day plus food. You can do the mathematics for this numbers. On the other hand, the main production and construction team of Boom keeps 60 people active from February to August. In Boom there are about 800 worldwide artits. Most people look at Boom as a music festival, but that is not the reality. 800 artists means flights from all over the world to Portugal; with artists, come costs on infrastructures, equipment and catering, plus the odd requests. All structures of Boom are re-invented and rebuilt yearly, which means that from May onwards all is built on site. Boom´s DIY ethic obviously increases all costs in human resources and materials. But onsite, people have the opportunity to develop their skills and promote their art! Alongside all this facts, there is another big cost, the fuel. For instance, in 2006 there was a consumption of 35 000 litters of fuel. But the costs go even farther: toilets, potable water, showers, water systems, waste treatment, gardens, projects for the infrastructures, decorations and its materials, radio, newspaper, web tv, hospital, security, etc… Plus, Boom does not accept sponsorships or financial deals from the corporate world. It is an independent culture festival, so the revenues come strictly from the audience. We at Boom we believe in independent culture for the expansion of conscious awareness. Since Boom is made by and for its audience, we have been developing a fair ticketing system. The ascending ticket price. In 2008, the first price was 95€ and the gate price will be 160€. In between there is the Boom Ambassador tickets at 115 € Even lower is the economic developing countries price 80 €. Everyone was encouraged and has the chance to purchase the cheaper tickets through the Internet. We consider the people who do this our real “partners”. More mathematics applied now on tickets: if we divide 95€ by 7 (which are the days of the festival), one gets around 13,5 € per day of festival (includes free camping, free parking and access to all activities and arts for free). Finally we also point out another unknown fact: with 20 000 people Boom doesn't even get to the breakeven point. Our believe in participatory democracy is as big as it is in independent culture. We find all narratives about Boom's profits quite curious in this world where material beings rule. But that is all part of our human mind projections. About human mind, we recently read a quote in Adbusters magazine that resumes our main goal: "When you cut off arterial blood to an organ, the organ dies. When you cut the flow of nature into people's lives, their spirit dies. It is as simple as that". Need to say more? » tá tudo dito

  13. "The 2008 edition line up is not based on a monoculture perspective. It’s based on a strong conviction that we must show the underground side of psy-trance as opposed to the dominant culture of the trance scene nowadays of big names in big line ups (repeating the mistakes that all other dance music genres made years ago, reducing the choices of the audience and emphasizing quantity as opposed of quality). Our concept is to show the underground and to create a dance floor where all sub-genres of psy-trance are represented. Some people will like it and some others won’t. However one thing is for sure: if you want to get in touch with the diversity that is still around you’ll have the dance floor. Be open-minded, from full-on psy-trance, dark, progressive to experimental, tribal and acoustic trance, techy or suomi, neo-goa trance and classic psy-trance: all tribes are represented. No monoculture, just diversity. Be open-minded in a dancefloor powered by a Funktion One sound system!" http://www.boomfestival.org/boom2008/arts_.../dancefloor.php
