We gather here with friends from around the world for the cosmic moment of the total solar eclipse. In this planetary alignment, a way between worlds is opened in the ancient land of Altay. This moment is guarded by a dragon, whose fiery spirit watches over our dreams from the deep blue heavens. According to legend, Altay is a central axis point between three worlds. A stairway winds from the underground world, up to the land of people, and on to the mountain celestial world. Khan Altay represents the spirit of our ancestral earth - a living, breathing, portal to planetary consciousness. This festival is an expression of gratitude and a moment of unity in cosmic awareness. Full Solar Eclipse - 1st of August 2008 A solar eclipse is an eclipse of our Sun which takes place, when Moon gets between an observer and Sun, and encloses (darkens) him. As Moon lights the reflected light, and before an eclipse turned to us an unlit side, a new moon always takes place right before an eclipse, so Moon is not visible for us. There is the impression, that Sun is closed by the blackness of unknown nature. At this moment the shade of Moon, falling on a terrene, is visible from space. Those, who get in this shade on Earth — can see a sun eclipse. It is naturally, that cone of Moon-shadow, is far less than Earth in a diameter, and therefore a solar eclipse is observed only on territory on which lunar shadow passes during an eclipse. As an orbit of Moon is elliptic, distance between Earth and Moon in the moment of eclipse can be different, accordingly, a diameter of spot of lunar shade on a terrene is different. At enough near position of Moon and suitable mutual locations of Earth, Moon and Sun, the cone of lunar shadow reaches terrene. Such eclipse is named a total sun eclipse. An earth-based observer, being in the bar of passing shadow, will see that Moon hides a Sun fully, sky darkles, the stars on it become visible. Around the sun disk which is hidden by the Moon it is possible to look after a corona which is not visible by the ordinary bright light of a Sun. Duration of a complete phase of eclipse, observed by motionless earth-based observer, lasts no more than a few minutes. The minimum rate of movement of lunar shade on an earthly surface is not more than 1 km/sec. A sun eclipse takes place in a new moon, and lunar - in a full moon. In a year there are often two lunar and two sun eclipses. Maximally possible quantity of eclipses – is seven. Through the certain interval of time lunar and sun eclipses repeat oneself in the same order. This interval was named saros, in a translation from Egyptian it means a reiteration. The duration of saros is approximately 18 years, 11 days. There are 70 eclipses during every saros - 42 solar and 28 lunar. Total solar eclipses from certain location are observed rarer, than lunar, once in 200-300 years. Solar Eclipse, August 1, 2008 Festival will be in the zone of solar eclipse during 2 minutes 13 seconds. Beginning in 16:48 by local time (in 12:48 by Moscow) Map of Solar Eclipse The total solar eclipse will begin on August, 1, 2008 at 09-22 by world time (UT) on the north of Canada – at dawn in the bay of Queen-Maude lunar shade will enter on a terrene. A maximal value and duration of complete phase in the middle of bar will be 1,014 and 1 minute 30 seconds accordingly. Moving to a north, lunar shadow will pass an eastern extremity of Victoria Island, the western part of King-William Island, partly will cover Islands of Prince Wales and Somerset, Butia peninsula. Further, passing in a 250 km eastwards a north magnetic pole, it will cross Devon and Elsmir Islands and in 9-26 UT will enter Greenland. “Striking” the north part of island, in 9-36 UT, shadow will go out in the Arctic ocean and, going on water a way long more than 900 km, in 9-47 UT will touch east part of the Norwegian island White and westernmost part of islands of Earth of Francis-Joseph. In 9-59 UT lunar shadow will cross New Earth, and in 10-08 UT, in the district of Baydaratski inlet, shadow will enter the Eurasian mainland. Further, shade will cross Obski inlet and Nadym river, where at 10-21 UT will be a longest phase of eclipse, equal 1,039 with the Sun-height above horizon in 33,5°. Duration of complete phase will attain 2 minutes 27 seconds V 10-30 UT shadow will appear above Nizhnevartovsk, duration of eclipse will last there 2 minutes 24 seconds.
